Fain IP Law, P.C. was formed in 2005 as an intellectual property firm whose mission was to serve all levels of clients: the individual, small business, big business, academia, and government, while keeping our services on a personal level.
The founder, Katy C. Fain, after a decade of intellectual property (IP) practice, grew weary of the "big law firm" model--and decided to make a break back to "sanity" for herself as a practitioner and for her clients as well. The lesson here: bigger isn't always better.
Katy Fain began practice about a decade ago in the Midwest, focusing on patent practice, particularly biotechnology and simple mechanical arts. Having practiced at larger general practice firms with IP branches as well as larger IP firms, Katy has experience with all types of clients: big and small business, individuals, universities, and governments. She has also had a broad experience in the IP markets, having handled biotech, chemical, and mechanical patents. Her particular specialty has become biotech nanotechnology and materials.
Beyond patent prosecution, Katy has handled litigation, licensing, clearance & patentability searches and opinons in both U.S. and foreign patents, including PCTs in the patent area. Further, atypical for patent attorneys in the "big" markets, Katy has had much experience with trademarks and copyrights and licensing, searches & opinions in those areas as well. With a smaller firm and a smaller market, you get a well-rounded attorney who can look at your intellectual property with an eye toward the whole picture.
When involved in larger litigation projects, we typically involve other local IP attorneys for a joint representation to provide you with "big firm" coverage with "small firm" access.
